Jam Packed First Week Back at School!

What an awesome start to the year we have had in Moana Learning Hub.

A round of People Bingo first up allowed us to mix and mingle with classmates helping us to learn something new about each other. Who knew so many in our class could touch their noses with their tongues! We continued to learn more about each other (and different animals) in a classification game, which resulted in us finding our new Buzz Groups. Our Buzz Groups are groups that we will continue to Learn, Create and Share with throughout the year.

This week we got stuck into swimming and begun Quickwrites which will become a weekly priority. In this week's writing, we had to decide which was better: Chocolate or Cheese? Which would you choose? You can make a comment below with your choice. Don't forget to add your reason/s why.

With Thursday out of the classroom, we also got started on some learning about the Treaty of Waitangi. Next week we will be able to bring home some booklets so you can see our learning too.

The week wouldn't have been complete if we didn't spend more time in our Buzz groups getting our license to use our Chromebooks (Kawa of Care), playing Tension and having a go at some team-building exercises.

We can't wait for all of the fun 2020 has in store for us!

Celebrating our Diversity!

For Term 2 we are going to have TinkerLab time where each week we are going to work with 'junk' to create around a theme.

In Moana we have 16 different nationalities!!  We think that is pretty impressive - don't you?

Koka Ngaire set us a challenge to Celebrate our Diversity through creating...

 This week:

We had to get in groups of 4 and Koka Ngaire gave us 20 sheets of newspaper, 1 metre of sellotape and 40 mins - that was it!!
We had to choose one nationality from our group and create a national costume using the newspaper... we had to make it really obvious which country our costume was from - Koka Ngaire and Koka Rachel (our DP) were judges (Koka Nolian our Principal came to see what all the excitment was about too!)

We had to communicate effectively with each other, we had to problem solve, we definitely had to think and we made connections with each other and to our cultures.

It was really fun and we definitely celebrated our diversity within our class!
Who do you think achieved our goal?

Timetables & Workshops

We are into our second week of using our timetables.  Some of us are able to sign up to workshops and fill in the timetables without help and some of us are still in the Learning Pit when it comes to making sure we get the whole week filled in!

We have had great discussions this week in our Maths, Writing and Reading workshops - lots of talking, asking questions, giving examples and thinking!  We have also had fun PE sessions and practices for the Nui Duathlon happening next week.

Matua Fergus has started to teach us Te Reo - our first workshop was on colours.   With Koka Ngaire we are learning more about using Screencastify so we will be able to explain and show our learning on our blogs.
In writing we have been learning what makes a good blog post so that we can get started on our very own posts to share our learning!

We can't forget our weekly creations for our Chapter Chat Twitter session on Friday - we all love getting creative in a variety of ways.  We also love seeing other kids from other schools' work & comments on our own work!
